Another Donation! Yet Once Again…

So I know this is a late post! (Please don’t hate me, ok?) So, as the title of this post suggests, I have indeed donated another painting. It was to Toast to the Coast and the event was held on November 4, 2011, @…. 7:30pm? See? I can’t even remember the time of the event I attended. I actually arrived super fashionably late. I had some dinner plans at the Goldfish Restaurant and the friends wanted to drink. I actually had two tables I had to visit because they sat separately.

Anyway, it was a great event. I will go again next year. I missed out on most of the food because I was so full already. I wasn’t quite happy with that! But the one thing I couldn’t stop eating were the Effingham Oysters one of the restaurants was serving (I forgot the name as I greedily kept my eyes on the Oysters). I felt like such a pig and other people were lining up while I stood politely and charmingly at the front of the line… Forever! - Which it almost seemed like… And plus, the guy working for the restaurant said I could have more. Well, I was surprised not much people were lining up for them so I stayed. I wish I got there earlier so I could network. Oh well, next time!

p.s. I need to get a camera so I can upload my event photos AND TAKE them!

Raw Canvas (NY here I come…)

So on June 4th, I recently met up with Matthew Kliewer, the events manager of Raw Canvas, to sign a one year contract with them stating that they are able to sell my work through their online catalogue. I am quite stoked. However, their waiting list to physically hang your work in their art/lounge is booked until May of 2012. Pretty crazy. They are also diversifying their art market renting artworks out to TV and movie productions.

The one thing I am most excited about is that they are opening a new location in New York and Toronto. I am hoping that my work will end up in New York and Toronto next year. Maybe even ship my work there to hang physically and store in their New York or Toronto warehouse. This is definitely a good start for an emerging artist. Definitely a non-traditional approach.

Aluminum Canvases

I recently had this new idea of wanting to experiment on aluminum canvases after seeing how a metal kettle (I’m guessing it’s steel) of my boyfriend’s have undergone a chemical change with heat, creating a burnishing effect. It’s quite beautiful. I think I’d like to recreate that look on the canvas and paint over with textures and more color. An artist friend of mine told me she has 25 aluminum plates that she can give me to experiment with, free of charge. Thank god, as I was starting to wonder how much it was going to cost me to buy some metal sheets and where would I buy it? I was starting to think that I’d have to go to a metal scrap company to look for some cool odd shapes to work with. But the idea of having to clean them first and painting on badly rusted pieces didn’t appeal to me. I just wanted to experiment with them first without having to do the hard work of obtaining them. My knowledge of working with metals is very basic and I will have to do some research to understand how to maintain the longevity. I already have my small creme brulee torch that I borrowed from my sister and I’m ready to go. I just love playing with fire and melting things. Let’s if these aluminum plates will do me proud.

UPDATE: They are thermal anodized aluminum plates and yes, I have tried burning one with a lighter. I didn’t have a torch on me but the lighter only made it hot. They are so flimsy too like paper! I thought it’d be heavy and hard and stiff. I will have to do more experiments with them but so happy that I received them. There’s actually enough to put on a show.
